Created
in 1979, The Media Institute exists to foster three goals: "freedom of speech,
a competitive media and communications industry, and excellence in journalism."
As part of their work, they publish books and monographs, convene conferences,
and also prepare regulatory filings and court briefs. On their homepage, visitors
can read their blog, and also look over their "Perspectives" series
and "Speaking Freely" opinion papers.
Some of the more recent
pieces here include "Collapsing Copyright Categories", "Defining
Away the First Amendment", and "A Taboo Topic: Government Subsidies
for the Media". Also, visitors can view their "Press Releases"
area for up-to-the minute news on the Institute's activities and their upcoming
conferences and luncheons in Washington, D.C. The site is rounded out by a set
of external links to organizations like the Media Coalition and the Society of
Professional Journalists. Visit

Renton of England suggests the best way to help economic recovery of Zimbabwe

China's students have long filled American graduate schools, its undergraduates
now represent the fastest-growing group of international students.

2008-9, more than 26,000 were studying in the United States, up from about 8,000
eight years earlier, according to the Institute of International Education. To

12. Education: International
Dunhuang Project
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
The
International Dunhuang Project is an enormous online undertaking, with collaboration
between more than a dozen institutions committed to making important artifacts
and documents about the heritage of the Silk Road available to all. For those
visitors unfamiliar with the exact location of the Silk Road, a map can be found
in the right hand corner of the "About IDP" link.
The vast quantities
of material from the Silk Road are located in collections and are scattered around
the world due to archeological expeditions from different countries, beginning
in the 19th century. The "Collections" link consists of British, Chinese,
French, German, Japanese, and Russian collections, as well as other smaller collections,
such as in Sweden and Finland, under "Other Collections".
Visitors
interested in teaching about the Silk Road will find that the "Education"
link has a "Teach" section that offers lots of wonderful exercises for
those who "wish to explore the culture, languages, religions and creativity
of the Silk Road." Some of the lessons include "Cultural Dialogue on
the Silk Road: A Mini Gallery" and "Medicine on the Silk Road".

London
has failed to make the top 50 "most live-able" cities, according to
worldwide analysis by the Economist Intelligence Unit. Canada's Vancouver scooped
the top spot having met an impressive 98% of the criteria set by the surveyors,
including the quality of healthcare, culture, environment and infrastructure.
Melbourne, Australia was number 3, and Cape Town came in at number 4. To read

"The
tragedy of life does not lie in not reaching your goals, the tragedy lies in not
