A white commercial farmer, who was evicted from his farm in Manicaland province in Zimbabwe, is reportedly set to return back and resume production after the decision "was reversed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa's new administration". Heavily armed Zimbabwean riot police besieged Robert Smart’s farm outside Rusape town in June and forcefully evicted him from his farm. The tobacco and maize grower was evicted to reportedly pave way for a top cleric, Trevor Manhanga, who had links with then president Robert Mugabe. To read the full report, go to our NEWS DESK link. Over a century of recorded church music, religious services, concerts, documentaries and radio and TV broadcasts from the BBC are contained in the expansive Archive of Recorded Church Music. In 1902, St. Andrew's Church in London became the first choir to issue a gramophone record, marking the beginning of the archive. The physical collection contains recordings from international labels spanning across the world and is comprised of a wide diversity of formats (78rpm, metal and vinyl records, reel-to-reel tapes, etc.). Materials in the collection are digitized to provide access via the digital archive. From the homepage, users can access an interactive video presentation entitled, "A century of recorded English church music," and scroll down to view choral performances available on the archive's YouTube channel. The archive also provides an interactive Advent calendar, with each day containing a special choral performance for the first twenty-four days of December. Visit this site.

The Online Books Page is almost 25 years old and continues to offer a valuable and ever-expanding index for finding books (and other materials, including speeches and periodicals) that are freely available online. In fact, as of this write-up, the index lists over 2 million books, including books made available by HathiTrust, Project Gutenberg, the Internet Archive, and a number of other sources. The Online Books Page was launched in 1993 by John Mark Ockerbloom. Since 1999, the site has been hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, where Ockerbloom works as a digital library planner and researcher. Visitors are invited to search or browse the "Books Online" page by categories, such as authors, titles, or serials. Frequent visitors will want to regularly check out the new listings page to see what titles have been recently added. As of December 1, 2017, recently added titles include Catherine Parr Strickland Traill's guide to Canadian Wildflowers (originally published in 1868); The 1903 collection Folk Tales from the Russian by Verra Xenophontovna Kalamatiano de Blumenthal; and The Life of John Thompson, a Fugitive Slave: Containing His History of 25 Years in Bondage, and His Providential Escape, Written by Himself, published in 1856.  Visit this site.

The Horsehead Nebula. This is one of the most famous nebulae on the sky. It is visible as the dark indentation to the red emission nebula in the center of this photograph. The horse-head feature is dark because it is really an opaque dust cloud that lies in front of the bright red emission nebula. Click here.

"We are strange beings, we seem to go free, but we go in chains - chains of training, custom, convention, association, environment - in a word, Circumstance - and against these bonds the strongest of us struggle in vain." ~ Mark Twain (1835-1910)
