Sub-Saharan
Africa,
long
ago
a
land
of
mystery,
is
today
an
economic
paradox.
Despite
being
blessed
with
a
wealth
of
natural
resources,
from
petroleum
and
natural
gas
in
Nigeria,
to
precious
gems
and
metals
in
Namibia,
the
region
continues
to
be
mired
in
poverty.
Yet,
behind
this
bleak
facade
lies
a
quiet
optimism
fueled
by
tradition
and
foreign
investors.

Western
wine
connoisseurs
once
derided
the
Chinese
as
simple
drinkers
who
mixed
wine
with
soda,
and
regarded
the
country's
top
vintners,
like
Dynasty,
as
local
oddities
serving
up
inexpensive
wines
in
an
immature
market.
But
a
growing
number
of
converts
-
investors
among
them
-
say
that
China
could
become
the
industry's
next
Chile:
a
font
of
quality
and
affordable
wines.

According
to
an
international
aid
agency,
the
number
of
people
living
on
the
edge
of
poverty
has
nearly
doubled

A

says
the

is
the
main

behind
the
alarming

"Hear

may
sound
like
a
rather
demanding
imperative,
but
it's
more
like
an
exuberant
invitation.
Created

The
Royal

(in

this
website
allows
listeners
to
listen
to
musicians,
conductors,
and
scholars
talk
about
their
work
and
how
they
listen
to
music
themselves.
For
starters,
visitors
can
listen
to
conductor
Sir
Colin
Davis
talk
about
the
influence
of
time
on
his
own
listening
and
work
and
then
move
over
to
a
conversation
with
pianist
Mitsuko
Uchida.
The
"Listen

section
includes
interactive
features
on
music
and

along
with
pieces
on
the
concert
going
experience
and
"Surrounded

which
looks
at
how
different
environments
impact
listening.
The
site
concludes
with
the
"Resources"
area
which
features
a
selection
of
additional
links
and
the
game
"Beat

which
asks
visitors
to

their
musical
memory
and
