1. Business: Latest Information for Investors in South Africa?

A Johannesburg lawyer says the South African judiciary is corrupt, with some judges collaborating with each other to rig court outcomes, abuse cost orders for political purposes, tamper with evidence and cause files to disappear. Raymond Edward Chalom, who has been in the legal profession for almost 50 years, says judges are appointed on the basis of friendship, trade-offs between lobby groups in the sector and affiliation to legal bodies rather than history, legal minds and experience. 2. Business & Emigration: South Africa Losing Skilled Workers
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

One of the most disturbing features of the South African economy in recent times has been the seeming acceleration of emigration of skilled persons. Emigration, especially of Whites, has been a feature of the economy for several decades. However, the trend seems to have accelerated more recently and appears to be embracing more than just Whites. Many people of colour, including educated Black Africans, appear to be joining the fray, having become disillusioned about the direction in which the economy is headed. 5. Business: Zimbabwe in Big Trouble
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

More than two million people in Zimbabwe are facing starvation after a severe drought that affected food harvests, the World Food Program said in a report. The UN food agency has launched a humanitarian appeal for US$331 million to assist those affected in the southern African nation. "We are talking about people who truly are marching towards starvation if we are not here to help them. We are facing a drought unlike any that we have seen in a long time," David Beasley said while launching the aid program in the Zimbabwean capital Harare on Tuesday. Nearly 5.5 million people--a third of Zimbabwe's population will need food assistance by 2020, UNICEF said in a report in June. To read the full report, go to our NEWS DESK link. (CNN)

6. Business & Education: Do You Like Pork Pies?
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Speaking about trading with the USA, Mr O'Callaghan, Head of the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association said: "A Melton Mowbray pork pie is a delicate fresh meat product so the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), like most other countries in the world, are very aware of meat products and you have to go through all the regulations to get them over there."  Our staff loves these pork pies so help us to keep them available at our offices in Long Beach, California, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Portland, Oregon.  To read the full report; go to our NEWS DESK link. 7. Education: Slavery in America
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Many Americans’ introduction to US history is the arrival of 102 passengers on the Mayflower in 1620. But a year earlier, 20 enslaved Africans were brought to the British colonies against their will. As John Rolfe noted in a letter in 1619, “20 and odd negroes” were brought by a Dutch ship to the nascent British colonies, arriving at what is now Fort Hampton, then Point Comfort, in Virginia. Though enslaved Africans had been part of Portuguese, Spanish, French and British history across the Americas since the 16th century, the captives who landed in Virginia were probably the first slaves to arrive into what would become the United States 150 years later. To read the full report, go to our NEWS DESK link. (Guardian)

Editor’s Note: We are proud to announce that the Delamere Group is sponsoring a new book called, “The Birth, Life & Death of King Cotton” to be published later this year by the “MTC International Foundation” in commemoration of 400 years since slavery was introduced to America in 1619.
